Early in the morning, a knowledgeable Egyptologist from Five S Travel will collect you from your hotel to begin an enriching full-day exploration of Cairo’s most iconic sites.
Your first stop will be the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, often referred to as the Egyptian Museum or Cairo Museum. This world-renowned museum houses an impressive collection of over 120,000 ancient Egyptian artifacts, with many items beautifully displayed while others remain in storage. Constructed in 1901 by the Italian firm Garozzo-Zaffarani, following the designs of French architect Marcel Dourgnon, the museum stands as one of the largest and most significant cultural institutions in the region.
Next, you will visit the Citadel of Saladin, a remarkable medieval fortress perched on the Mokattam hills. Built by the legendary leader Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and expanded by successive Egyptian rulers, the citadel served as the seat of government and royal residence for nearly seven centuries, from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Its strategic hilltop location offers commanding views over Cairo, and its massive walls represent one of the most ambitious military projects of its era. Today, the site remains a cherished historical landmark, featuring impressive mosques and preserved architecture.
Your day will conclude with a visit to Old Coptic Cairo, a spiritual and historical quarter rich in Christian heritage. According to tradition, the Holy Family once visited this area, which is home to numerous ancient religious sites, including the Babylon Fortress, the Hanging Church, the Greek Church of St. George, Saints Sergius Church (Abu Serga), the Church of St. Barbara, and the Ben Ezra Synagogue.
After a day full of discovery and wonder, you will be comfortably driven back to your hotel in Cairo.
